Communications and strategic marketing support for the Department of English is managed by the Student Marketing and Communications Team — a student unit responsible for handling day-to-day needs as well as consulting on larger projects and initiatives — located in the Makers Space (Denney Hall 421). The team's responsibilities are listed below, and include maintaining the departmental website and social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube

Whenever possible, the Student Marketing and Communications Team fields project requests from individuals or groups. The ability to accept a project depends on the time of year the request is submitted and the project queue. If a project cannot be accepted, you will be notified immediately and consulted about alternate methods to consider for moving forward. Because the Student Marketing and Communications Team serves such a large number of people, the turnaround time can be longer than expected. As such, it is strongly recommended that you consult the "Submit a Project Request" section below as early as possible when planning a project or event. 


The Student Marketing and Communications Team is supervised by Electronic Learning Development Senior Specialist Mike Bierschenk.

The following requests can be addressed by emailing the Student Marketing and Communications Team directly at english.communications@osu.edu:

  • Update existing People page
  • Update existing webpage
  • Request creation of new basic webpage (not People, Events or News pages)

Please allow at least 1-2 business days for all requests.  

The following requests can be addressed by completing the webforms linked below:

  • Create new People page
  • Submit news
  • Submit an event
  • Submit Research and Scholarship citations (for publications in peer- and editor-reviewed journals, literary journals and magazines, book chapters, essays or other works in anthologies, books and excerpts from books-in-progress)
  • Submit In the Media citations (for articles, opinion pieces and regular columns written by department members for print/online newspapers as well as other media outlets, as well as articles, interviews, television coverage, radio specials, press releases and reviews about the research, scholarship and professional activities of department faculty, staff and students)

Please allow at least 1-2 business days for all requests.

The Marketing and Communications office (MarComm) in the College of Arts and Sciences also supports the Department of English. The MarComm intranet website gives an overview of the services they provide. A few offerings that are especially relevant and frequently used include:

  • Submit News and Events Items
    • Use this form to submit items for Around the Oval and Experts in the Media, and to submit events to the Arts and Sciences calendar
  • Submit a Project Inquiry
    • Use this form if you have a publicity project that the departmental communications team is not able to take on. 
  • Share a Story Idea
    • Use this form if you'd like to pitch a story for the Arts and Sciences MarComm team to write
