The Department of English is thrilled to announce that Associate Professor Leslie Lockett has received the 2022-23 Honors Faculty Service Award.

The award is given annually to professors in the liberal arts to recognize their “excellence in honors advising, honors instruction, honors committee work and other honors initiatives and responsibilities which have enhanced the quality of education available to honors students.” Department chairs must nominate a faculty member. The nomination packet must include a nomination letter detailing their contributions to the Honors and Scholars Program and their Curriculum Vitae (CV) . The recipients will receive an award of $1000.

Lockett is the Associate Director of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and a member of the Honors and Scholars Program Faculty Advisory Committee. She is the author of Anglo-Saxon Psychologies in the Vernacular and Latin Traditions and was awarded the Sir Israel Gollancz Prize by the British Academy in 2013 and the John Nicholas Brown Prize for Best First Book by the Medieval Academy of America in 2015 for her work. Her research interests also include Latin retrograde verse and the history of cheesemaking.

Lockett is grateful for the opportunity to work with and support the “tremendous” honors students and finds it a reward all on its own. She thanks Professor Susan Williams and Associate Professor Jesse Schotter for nominating her. She says, “while I am sincerely grateful to be recognized… I want to tip my cap to my colleagues who have devoted their time and energy to the students who need dedicated and skilled support.” She elaborates, “I'm thinking of my colleagues who are committed to helping first-generation college students and those from underprivileged backgrounds to navigate toward success at Ohio State… and those who teach writing to students who are still developing their English-language skills.”

Congratulations to Professor Leslie Lockett on this recognition of her commitment to the Honors and Scholars Program!
