Come to 311 Denney Hall on Monday, November 18 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm to learn how! The Department of English’s Undergraduate Studies Program and the Professional Writing Minor are co-hosting a career workshop on writing cover letters. The workshop is intended for English majors, English minors (including Disability Studies, Medical Humanities, Creative Writing, Critical Theory & Culture, Pop Culture Studies, and Professional Writing), and those interested in English and/or Professional Writing. Join us to learn about this specific genre of writing and how to develop persuasive cover letters. Dr. Katie Stanutz (Undergraduate Program Manager) and Dr. Lindsay Martin (Professional Writing Minor Coordinator) will discuss the purpose of cover letters, the key elements of a cover letter, how to structure content and how to tailor a cover letter to a particular job advertisement. If you have a resume, bring it (if you don’t, no problem). Additionally, if you have a particular job advertisement you’d like to discuss, feel free to bring it (if not, we’ll have samples to discuss).
