Job advertisements are specific genres, and in this interactive workshop, we will help students learn how to interpret these texts and respond to them in job materials. The skills developed in English courses such as close reading, critical analysis and written communication are quite useful when applied to the job search process, and we will guide you in how to best use those abilities to help you find a job and/or internship. We will provide sample job ads to discuss, but if you have one that you would like to discuss, please feel free to bring it. At the end of this workshop, students will be able to: Identify key elements and words in a job ad Develop strategies for responding to specific job ads in application materials such as resumes and cover letters Distinguish between legitimate job ads and fake job postings Locate job ads relevant to their professional interests Employ skills developed in their English major or minor directly to their job search process If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Katie Stanutz (.3). 311 Denney Hall Department of English english@osu.edu America/New_York public
