Sappho Stanley (they/she) is a trans, Appalachian poet, editor, & educator. They grew up in Southwest Virginia. They received their BA in English from East Tennessee State University. Currently they are candidate in the Ohio State University’s Creative Writing MFA, studying poetry. Here, they serve as Poetry & Production Editor at The Journal. They write about the trans experience & the ways that experience interacts with capitalism; their work explores t4t community, sex work, & life in Appalachia.

You can find her work forthcoming or in AGNI, Waxwing, & Mississippi Review as well as others. She has been anthologized in Texas Review Press’ Southern Poetry Anthology: Virginia Vol. IX.

Their chapbook was a finalist for the 2024 New Delta Review Chapbook Prize and the 2024 CutBank Chapbook Contest.
