Natalia Colón Alvarez is a PhD candidate in Popular Culture, specifically working in Comics Studies. Her research centers on looking at the construction of identities in graphic narratives, the material nature of the medium, the participatory culture forged by comics and pop culture fans and depictions of othered bodies and identities. Recently, she has focused on how comics construct Puerto Rican identity in the wake of natural disaster and national trauma.
