Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

The Department of English: Get Connected

At the end of September, the Department of English unveiled their new and improved web site just in time for the start of autumn quarter. The new site contains more information and an easy to navigate format which simplifies getting news and events. One of the newest changes is the addition of a Twitter link.

Today, most students have the internet at their fingertips at all times. Whether they are on their laptops or Smartphone’s, they have the ability to connect with the world instantly. Previously information about the many events and new stories surrounding the Department of English could be accessed by their web site or by Facebook. Now, another form of social media is added to the mix. A twitter link has been included on the web site in yet another effort to keep students, faculty, and alumni informed of everything English related at Ohio State.

According to Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies  & Advisor, Ruth Friedman, “One of our student assistants, Taylor Sawyer, convinced me that the English Department should be on Twitter!  Apparently, many of the OSU Colleges, organizations, and, of course, Gordon Gee are already using Twitter, so I think it’s a good idea for us to be present as well. And it surprised us to learn that Twitter is used more than e-mail and Facebook by our students."

So, whether students are studying on their laptops at Thompson Library, playing computer games at home, or just sitting on the Oval texting friends, they are never far from connecting with the Department of English.
