Associate Professor Marcus Jackson receives 2023 GCAC Artists Elevated Award
The Department of English is excited to announce that Associate Professor Marcus Jackson has received one of the 2023 Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Artists Elevated Awards.
Each Artists Elevated Award grants $25,000 in unrestricted funds to a Columbus-based artist, in order to “provide a more meaningful investment in moving an artist forward in their career.” Professor Jackson is one of the five recipients of this year’s awards.
Jackson is the director of the Creative Writing Program. His poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, The New Yorker, and The New York Times Magazine, among other publications. His second book-length collection, Pardon My Heart, was published by TriQuarterly Books (Northwestern University Press) in 2018.
Jackson is humbled and thrilled to receive this recognition. “The GCAC Elevated Artists Award is a one-of-a-kind honor and connection to the larger Ohio arts community,” he says. "I'm so happy that the GCAC and their donors, year after year, continue to support artists and arts organizations with an unwavering vigor and comprehensiveness. Because of their support, I'll be able to dedicate more resources and time to my next book project, which will be a hybrid collection of poems and photographic portraits about contemporary African American labor and leisure.”
Congratulations to Marcus Jackson on this exciting achievement!
