Teaching Diversity Courses in the English and GE Curriculum

2024-11-18 13:30:00 2024-11-18 14:30:00 Teaching Diversity Courses in the English and GE Curriculum The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee would like to invite all English department instructors to the first of a series of conversations devoted to pedagogy this academic year. If you teach (or plan to teach) one of the English major’s “Diversity” courses, a GE Foundation: Race, Ethnicity and Gender Diversity course, and/or another English course that focuses on social differences, hierarchies, and power, we hope you will join us for a roundtable with English department faculty followed by an informal discussion on approaches to teaching these issues. Light refreshments will be provided as well. Possible topics include:Incorporating theories, methods, and histories from relevant fields (e.g., ethnic studies, postcolonial studies, feminist theory, queer theory, disability studies) into course contentAddressing GE Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs) in terms of course designBalancing (inter)disciplinary responsibilities and trends with GE ELOs“Covering” multiple dimensions of “diversity”Framing, moderating, and navigating classroom discussions and dynamicsThis will be a hybrid event.
