What might it mean to study pop culture as a serious artifact, to see pop culture and high culture in serious, productive relationship to one another (and even, at times, constituting one and the same thing)? What kinds of ideological work do standards of popularity and aesthetic seriousness perform? Students working with a range of forms, media, periods, and national traditions are all welcome!
