When he acquired a printing press the early 1900s, inspired by printers such as William Morris and the Roycroft group, he began to print his own tiny books in the Arts and Crafts style. Bubb drew his inspiration for his charming “Clerk’s Press” booklets from liturgical tradition, from the work of other Arts and Crafts printers, and, perhaps more surprisingly, from the beginnings of Modernism. This Saturday Spotlight showcases for the first time both many of Bubb’s printed works in the Rare Books & Manuscripts Library’s collection and some of the intriguing range of works that influenced him, from medieval liturgy to Ezra Pound. This Saturday Spotlight is curated by Clare Simmons, Professor of English at The Ohio State University, where she teaches courses on British literature. She is the author of multiple books and articles on nineteenth-century English and Scottish literature, especially in relation to medievalism. She came across Bubb’s works while researching Christmas carols for her monograph Medievalist Traditions in Nineteenth-Century British Culture (2021).For parking information, visit the CampusParc website or the Ohio State mobile app. Room 105 Thompson Library America/New_York public
