The Rhetoric Society at Ohio State is excited to welcome Dr. Eileen Lagman to campus as our spring speaker. She will deliver a talk entitled "Literacy Refrains: Affect, Learning, and Loss in the Filipino Diaspora," on Wednesday, March 26, from 3-5:30 pm. Please join us in Denney 311 or via Zoom

Dr. Lagman's talk draws from a larger project exploring how mass labor migration from the Philippines over the last half century has created conditions for literacy where loss has become a central resource for meaning making in the lives of Filipino labor migrants. She will specifically explore the concept of literacy refrains to examine the ways that literacy—in labor migration programs, policies, practices—has acted as a mechanism to manage the flow of affects between the migrant citizen and nation-state.
