Inaugural Lecture: Leslie Lockett, "Writing the History of Cheese in Medieval Europe"

Professor Leslie Lockett
January 29, 2025
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Faculty Club Grand Lounge

Inaugural lectures celebrate Arts and Humanities faculty who have been promoted to the rank of professor. Please join in celebrating Leslie Lockett, professor of English and associate director of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, as she delivers her inaugural lecture, "Writing the History of Cheese in Medieval Europe": how were cheesemaking, cheese consumption, and the cultural significance of cheese different in medieval Europe (ca. 500-1500 CE) than they are for us? This lecture will address the question from three angles, by discussing cheese itself, cheese as a symbol or concept, and replicative experiments in cheesemaking.

Inaugural lectures are free and open to the public, but registration is appreciated. For more information and to register, please visit this lecture's event listing at the College of Arts and Sciences website.
