Through in-depth interviews with 20 associate and full professors across disciplines, I examine how they narrate the genesis and development of projects they've long aspired to write—works distinct from their dissertation-derived research. Analysis reveals shared patterns in how faculty frame these passion projects as "signature works" in their scholarly trajectories, including common triggers for inception and metaphors for describing “dream projects” as well as how faculty tell the stories of these projects to graduate students and disciplinary communities. Outlets for this research will be discussed including a larger book project with Princeton University Press on writing meaningful scholarship during sabbaticals.Zoom information:Meeting ID: 925 8218 5611Password: 838658 Denney 311 America/New_York public
