Flexible Work

Ohio State supports flexible work arrangements to achieve a reliable and productive work environment that enables employees to manage work and personal needs. The availability of flexible work options may change as we evolve in how we do our work.

Flexible Work Arrangements

Flexible work may include workplace location (remote/hybrid), as well as work time (days, hours, etc.). Employees who are working remotely in any capacity must complete an online Flexible Work Agreement to appropriately document their work locations and collect work location information for tax reporting purposes. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that their address is up-to-date in Workday so that there is an accurate record of their work location.

When arrangements and/or location(s) change, a new form should be submitted. If the flexible work request includes additional detail beyond planned work location and time, a Flexible Work Proposal must be completed and attached to the Flexible Work Agreement.

Flexible Work Agreements may be submitted up to 90 days in advance of the start of the agreement but cannot exceed 365 days from the date when the Flexible Work Agreement is submitted. Flexible Work Agreements should be reviewed and evaluated regularly by the employee and their manager and at least once per year to ensure that they are accurate.

Resources

We understand that faculty have a natural flexibility in the nature of their work and it is normal for a faculty member to come and go from campus to a non-campus location. However, for all employees who work either fully remote or who have a hybrid arrangement working both on-campus at remotely, it is important to document the non-campus work location(s) for tax reporting purposes. Faculty are not required to maintain a Flexible Work Agreement during the off-duty period unless they are performing work on behalf of the university during this period and working a hybrid or remote schedule.

Requests to work remotely outside of Ohio will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis according to the process outlined on the University website on Flexible Work (https://hr.osu.edu/policies/flexible-work). Requests must be reviewed by HR and fully approved by the department and the college prior to the start of working out-of-state.

The Ohio State University is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to ensure employees with qualifying disabilities enjoy seamless access to employment opportunities. The Office of Human Resources, Integrated Absence Management and Vocational Services Department (IAMVS), in consultation with the ADA Coordinator’s Office, partners with employees and departments throughout the interactive process. Employees seeking an accommodation, or supervisors or managers who have been presented with a request for an accommodation, should contact IAMVS at 614-292-3439 or hr-integrateddisability@osu.edu.
