Benjamin Hoffman will present "Writing the Truth about America at the Time of the French Revolution" on Monday, March 21st from 10:30-11:30pm in 311 Denney. This presentation is part of the Humanities Institute's Americas Before 1900 Working Group. It will focus on a travel narrative by Claude-François-Adrien de Lezay-Marnésia, Letters Written from the Banks of the Ohio (1792), and examine the author’s central claim: did he "write the truth about America" (to quote his editor’s foreword) or did he paint the utopian image of the country he wished he had discovered during his emigration to present-day Ohio at the time of the French Revolution?

Bagels, coffee, and other brunch items will be provided. Copies of the presentation are available up to a week in advance. Please email Molly Farrell at farrell.73@osu.edu for one.
