Jay Dolmage will give a talk titled "Academic Ableism and Eugenic Education" on Monday, April 4th at 4 p.m. in the Ohio Union Great Hall Meeting Room 2 (Note the changed location). The talk is free and open to the public. Dolmage will also be delivering a graduate-only workshop on Tuesday, April 5th at 4 p.m. in 316 Denney.
Professor Dolmage is committed to disability rights in his scholarship, service, and teaching. His first book, Disability Rhetoric, brings together rhetorical theory and history, composition theory, disability studies, and critical pedagogy. He is also currently completing two new book projects: Academic Ableism, examining the roots and branches of eugenics in North American higher education; and Disabled Upon Arrival, examining the rhetorical co-construction of race and disability in immigration promotion and restriction. Dolmage is also founding editor of the Canadian Journal of Disability Studies, chair of the College Composition and Communication Committee on Disability Issues, and travels frequently to give workshops on Universal Design in teaching and learning.
Graduate students looking to reserve a seat for the workshop should email Amy Shuman. Any other questions or access requests should be sent to Lauren Strand.
This event is sponsored by the Disability Studies Graduate Student Association.
