Using Crestron AirMedia for wireless display

Using Crestron AirMedia for wireless display

Many of the department's spaces are set up for wireless display using Crestron AirMedia, which allows users to project to installed displays from their personal devices (laptops, tablets, and phones running all major systems).

Departmental rooms in Denney Hall with wireless display capability via Crestron AirMedia as of January 2026:

  • the fourth-floor seminar rooms: 419, 435, 447
  • the DMP's classrooms: 307, 308, 312, 316

MacOS, Windows, and iOS all provide built-in methods for quickly connecting to Crestron AirMedia systems. If you are using a device that doesn't support such a method or find that the quick method is not working, AirMedia systems are also accessible via a web portal and/or dedicated apps; see the Manual Connection accordion section below.

Connection methods

The last few versions of MacOS removed the Screen Mirroring icon from the menu bar. (It looks like a rectangle laid on top of another rectangle of the same size.) If you plan to present wirelessly from your Mac on a regular basis, you may wish to re-enable it: open System Settings > go to Menu Bar > find Screen Mirroring in the list and check its box, then select “Always Show” in its dropdown.

If you have the Screen Mirroring icon in your menu bar

  1. Click the Screen Mirroring icon and select the appropriate TV from the list
  2. Enter the code that displays on the TV (it may take a few seconds to appear)
  3. To disconnect, click on the icon again and select Stop Mirroring

If you do not have the Screen Mirroring icon in your menu bar

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Go to Displays
  3. Click the plus sign in the lower-right and select the appropriate TV
  4. Enter the code that displays on the TV (it may take a few seconds to appear)
  5. To disconnect, return to System Settings > Displays
    1. Click on the thumbnail of the TV you’re connected to
    2. Click the Disconnect button (below the resolution selection list)

Windows laptops have a built-in feature, Miracast, that is supposed to make wireless connections quick and seamless, but the interactions between Windows Firewall and Ohio State’s network architecture often cause problems. We suggest testing beforehand. If you cannot use Miracast, see below for Manual Connection.

  1. Hold down the Windows key (to the left of the spacebar) and press K
  2. Select the appropriate TV from the list that appears
  3. Enter the code that displays on the TV (it may take a few seconds to appear)
  4. To disconnect, type Win+K  again and click the Disconnect button.
  1. Open the Control Center by swiping down from the upper-right corner of the device
  2. Tap the Screen Mirroring icon. ((It looks like a rectangle laid on top of another rectangle of the same size.)
  3. Select the appropriate TV from the list
  4. Enter the code that displays on the TV (it may take a few seconds to appear)
  5. To disconnect, click on the icon again and select Stop Mirroring

Android devices do not have a built-in quick method; see Manual Connection below.

If you cannot use any of the quick methods, you can connect via the web portal.

  1. Open a web browser and type in the IP address (four numbers separated by periods) that is displayed in the lower-left corner of the AirMedia screen
    1. If you receive a warning that the site doesn’t support a secure connection, choose to continue anyway — this is normal.
  2. Click the Start Presenting button, which will open the AirMedia application
    1. If you receive a prompt requesting permission to open the app, allow it.
    2. If you do not already have the AirMedia application installed, you will be prompted to download and install it. This typically does not require administrator privileges.
  3. When prompted, enter the code that displays on the TV (it may take a few seconds to appear on the TV)
    1. If you are not prompted for a code and instead see the app’s Connect screen, you may need to re-enter the IP address within the app
  4. To stop displaying wirelessly, return to the AirMedia app and select Disconnect

If sound is still playing from your device after connection:

  1. Go to your device’s control panel
  2. Look for the sound settings (typically where the volume control is)
  3. Then look for an arrow or other way to open up a list of output devices.
  4. Select the name of the TV you are connected to.
