OSU English Undergraduates Participate in 2014 MLK Day Celebration

The Department of English is excited to report that two of our undergraduates, T.J. Armstrong (B.A., English) and Joaquin Gonsalves (B.A., Psychology), both of whom are pursuing the department's minor in professional writing, were recognized by Mayor Michael Coleman during the City of Columbus's Martin Luther King Jr Day celebration on Monday, January 20, 2014. T.J. and Joaquin worked together to draft the script for the celebration's live TV-broadcast performance, held at Veterans Memorial in downtown Columbus, and T.J. was also featured in a Columbus Dispatch  article. Available online, this article discusses the interviews that these two students conducted with Columbus area community members and leaders to prepare portions of the MLK Day celebration script.

The Minor in Professional Writing works with students from all areas of study across the university who are interested in writing in the professional world, academic settings, and public arenas of civic life. The goal of the program is to help students become reflective and articulate writers who contribute effectively to the ever-changing needs of 21st-century workplaces. Our partnerships with more than 150 workplaces in the Columbus metropolitan area are key to the program’s successful efforts on our students’ behalf.
