Halasek and McGraw Honored for Distinguished Teaching

Professor Kay Halasek and Professor Erin McGraw have been named as recipients of the  2013 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching.

The Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching honors faculty members for superior teaching. Recipients are nominated by present and former students and colleagues and are chosen by a committee of alumni, students, and faculty. They receive a cash award of $3000, made possible by contributions from the Alumni Association, friends of Ohio State, and the Office of Academic Affairs. They also receive a $1,200 increase in their base salaries from the Office of Academic Affairs. The recipients will be inducted into OSU's Academy of Teaching, which provides leadership for the improvement of teaching at Ohio State.

Recent  honorees from the ranks of the Department of English include Professors David Herman (2012), Jennifer Higginbotham (2011), Elizabeth Renker (2008), James Phelan (2007), and Lee Martin (2006). This is not the first time that two professors from the Department has been chosen for the Alumni Awards for Distinguished Teaching: double honors were received in 2005 by Professors Anne L. Bower (of the Marion Campus) and Susan S. Williams, in 1999 by Professors Scott DeWitt (Marion, currently Columbus) and Michelle Herman, and in 1985 by Professors Ernest Lockridge and John F. Sena.

Many congratulations to our recipients of the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, past and present!
