The Rare Books & Manuscripts Library (RBML) is hosting its first open house of the 2023 spring semester. This event will showcase items from RBML’s Emanuel Rudolph Children’s Science Collection and focus specifically on its nineteenth-century British children’s books. The nineteenth century witnessed tremendous changes in children’s literature as improvements in printing technology made books cheaper and more widely accessible. This event will highlight various forms of nineteenth-century children’s literature, including conversational, ornithological, botanical, scientific and gendered texts. We invite you to come explore these books and learn more about the development of nineteenth-century children’s literature!
This Saturday Spotlight is curated by Department of English PhD candidate Samantha Trzinski. Her areas of interest include nineteenth-century British literature, children's literature and book history.
