In November 2024 Lord Denney’s Players’ twelfth production, John Fletcher’s The Faithful Shepherdess (1610), offered Columbus audiences a lively, absurd expansion of the Shakespearean tropes they know and love. The premiere example of Jacobean tragicomedy, the play balances on a knife edge between genres while also offering such a robust satire of puritanical values that audiences have called it “American Pie set in the seventeenth century.” This film of the LDP production, produced by ASCTech at the Ohio State University, makes this delightful but rarely produced play accessible to all.
