The Department of English is pleased to host an alumni panel focused on careers in grant writing. For this panel, we'll be talking with Carol Bitzinger, Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist at The Ohio State University, and Rebecca Leach-Seymour, Grant Writer at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Carol and Rebecca will share insight into their work, the path that brought them from Ohio State to their current roles, and how the English major has supported their work from graduation until now.

Carol Bitzinger is a two-time graduate of the Department of English, earning her B.A. in 2016 and her M.A. in 2018. She returned to OSU as a staff member in 2021, initially working as a fiscal associate and ultimately moving into grants management in 2022. Carol is currently the senior grants specialist for several areas in Arts & Sciences, including the Institute for Population Research (IPR), School of Communication, and Department of Sociology. She provides full lifecycle grant support (pre-award and post-award) for faculty in these areas and oversees the administration of IPR's seed grant programs, which support emerging scholars in population research. Carol is also a contributing editor for NCURA Magazine and newsletter writer for the Research Administrators Certification Council.

Becky Leach-Seymour is a seasoned fundraiser with two decades of experience building networks and growing resources to support the vital work being done by non-profit organizations around the world. A proud central Ohio native, Becky has dedicated much of her career to organizations that enrich her community, including the Columbus Metropolitan Library and Franklin Park Conservatory. She now serves as Grant Writer at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
