Register for DMAC
The Digital Media and Composition Institute (DMAC) at The Ohio State University is a week-long institute on the effective use of digital media in college composition classrooms. Participants will explore a range of contemporary digital literacy practices – alphabetic, visual, audio, and multimodal – and apply what they learn to the design of meaningful assignments, syllabi, curricula, and programs.
DMAC 2026 will be held virtually from May 11-18.
Note: Registration for DMAC is first-come, first-served. We recommend that you begin the process of securing funding as early as possible, and we advise against incurring non-refundable expenses before receiving official confirmation of your spot at DMAC. We will announce our transition to a waitlist if we reach capacity before the end of the registration period.

Registration and Payments
Step 1
To hold a spot, complete the online registration form AND pay the initial registration fee of $300. The priority deadline for registration is March 1, 2026.
Your “seat” at DMAC is not reserved until we receive your application and registration payment.
Payments can be made by credit card, check, money order, or institutional purchase order to DMAC’s mailing address (see “Payment” below). Please note: The $300 registration fee is not refundable.
Step 2
The full institute fee of $1,250 (which includes the nonrefundable $300 registration fee) is due by March 15, 2026. You may also pay in full at the time of registration, if you prefer. If we do not receive the complete institute fee by March 15, we may release the spot to someone on the waitlist.
After registration has closed in March, the DMAC team will contact participants with the DMAC 2026 schedule and instructions on how to access materials online.

Refunds
The $300 registration deposit is not refundable and cannot be rolled over to future DMAC Institutes.
Funding
The Digital Media and Composition Institute (DMAC) is proud to announce the Cindy and Dickie Selfe Fellowship for DMAC 2026.
This fellowship supports diversity and inclusion in the field of digital media and composition studies. We invite applicants from historically marginalized communities, as well as educators who work with these communities. We also invite applications from scholars whose work and scholarly interests address educational and societal inequities within digital media and composition studies. Our goal is to amplify voices that are often unheard in our field and make DMAC participation possible for individuals who could not otherwise participate.
The 2026 fellowship award is $950 and will be applied directly to the tuition fees for the Institute. Please note that fellowship recipients will still be required to pay the $300 registration fee.
To apply, please draft a 1–2-page application letter that addresses the following questions:
- What personal and professional goals do you hope to achieve by attending DMAC, and how are they related to your current work?
- How might your participation in DMAC improve the educational environment for colleagues and students at your home institution?
- How will your participation in DMAC contribute to the diversity of students, teachers, and scholars in the field of digital media and composition studies?
- What means of funding do you currently have to attend DMAC?
Please upload your completed letter using this application form. Selfe Fellowship applications are due February 2, 2026.
In the past, DMAC participants have had success securing funding by using annual travel or research funds, applying for competitive travel or research grants (internal and/or external), and arranging with their home departments or academic units to perform some kind of service in exchange for funding—for example, putting on a series of workshops or developing/updating curricula.
If you are looking for ways to fund your participation in DMAC, consider these other suggestions:
- Talk to your department chair and offer to give a series of teaching with technology workshops when you return from DMAC, if the department helps fund your participation.
- Ask your department chair whether your dean can provide matching funds.
- Talk to your institution’s instructional technology office and offer to give a series of teaching with technology workshops when you return from DMAC, if the office will help fund your participation.
- Ask your graduate school/program to match your department’s and your dean’s funds.
- Ask if your graduate school/program provides scholarships for professional development or travel that can be applied to DMAC.
- Talk to the local K–12 school district about providing funding if you agree to give a series of teaching with technology workshops when you return from DMAC.
Course Credit
Academic course credit for DMAC is arranged at students’ home institutions. Graduate students may, for example, arrange for an independent study with their advisor. We suggest to advisors that graduate students who attend DMAC receive 3 hours of graduate credit for their involvement.
Upon request, graduate students who attend DMAC will be provided with a letter to their graduate advisor signed by the DMAC Director. The letter will detail the student’s activities and contributions to the institute, so the advisor can assign a grade for the independent study.
