Deborah Burks, Associate Professor. (Ph.D., Rutgers University) Early Modern literature and culture. Author of Horrid Spectacle: Violation in the Theater of Seventeenth-Century England (Duquesne UP, 2004) and articles on John Foxe's Acts and Monuments, Thomas Middleton and William Rowley's The Changeling, James Shirley's The Cardinal, and Margaret Cavendish's "Assaulted and Pursued Chastity." Dr. Burks' current project is a study of women as agents and targets of surveillance in Tudor/Stuart England and its literature.
