Virginia Hull Diversity and Inclusion Award


The Virginia Hull Diversity and Inclusion Award is given annually to an English major from an underrepresented Ohio State student population who contributes to the inclusive excellence of the university through academics and/or community impact. The award is open to all underrepresented English majors who are not graduating in the semester in which the award is given. The recipient of this award will receive a $2,000 scholarship and an invitation to the Department of English's annual awards ceremony, which will take place in late April.

Application Requirements: Students who meet the above criteria should submit an application consisting of the following:

  2. An essay of no longer than 750 words discussing your engagement with diversity and inclusion

Submission Procedure: These materials should be emailed as an attachment with the subject line "Virginia Hull scholarship application" to Pablo Tanguay at No hard copies will be accepted.

Selection and Award Process: All applications will be forwarded to the Department of English's Diversity and Inclusion awards subcommittee. The subcommittee will review all applications and determine the winner. The Undergraduate Studies Program Manager will then notify the winner and invite them to attend the awards ceremony, along with up to four guests. The $2,000 scholarship award will be processed after the awards ceremony through the student's university financial account. Generally, the award is paid out in two equal installments over the following two semesters.
