The Lord Denney's Players Shakespeare Prizes

2018-19 APPLICATION DEADLINE 5:00 P.M., MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2019

These two awards are designed to recognize critical and scholarly writing by undergraduates enrolled in English department 1.) introductory and 2.) advanced Shakespeare courses, including advanced English courses in which Shakespeare is taught.  The winners will each receive a $200 scholarship.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the introductory Shakespeare award, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Have completed a critical or scholarly essay on Shakespeare in ENGL 2220 or ENGL 2220H during spring 2018, summer 2018, or autumn 2018 semesters (essays completed during earlier semesters will not be considered); and
  • Have been enrolled as an undergraduate at Ohio State during the semester in which the essay was written (students from all majors are welcome to apply for this award)

To be eligible for the advanced Shakespeare award, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Have completed a critical or scholarly essay on Shakespeare in ENGL 4520.01, 4520.02, 3398, or any other 3000-level-or-above English course during spring 2018, summer 2018, or autumn 2018 semesters (essays completed during earlier semesters will not be considered); and
  • Have been enrolled as an undergraduate at Ohio State during the semester in which the essay was written (students from all majors are welcome to apply for this award)

Application Requirements
Applications for the  Lord Denney’s Players’ Prizes must be received by email to tanguay.1@osu.edu. The essay must include a first page that provides the student’s

  • name 
  • dot.#
  • major/college
  • expected date of OSU graduation
  • essay title
  • title of English course for which the essay was written
  • term you completed this course
  • course #
  • name of course instructor

Please submit the entire package by email in an attached .pdf document to tanguay.1@osu.edu. Please indicate in the email subject line whether the application is for the introductory or advanced award.
