Joshua Zirl is a PhD student at The Ohio State University in the Department of English. His research focus is on popular culture, particularly comics and video games, paying close attention to representations of gender and sexuality.
Some of his most recent endeavors includes archival work on audience response to queerness in early-twentieth-century comics in addition to essays on representations of queerness in early newspaper comics, the effects of toxic masculinity on serial comics and the narrative implications of illusory agency in video games.
