Carol Bitzinger

PhD Student

Carol Bitzinger is an MA/PhD student primarily interested in nineteenth-century American literature and poetry. She is especially interested in the works of Herman Melville and Emily Dickinson; she has also written extensively on African American literature. Her larger interest in American literature is one of nationalist rhetoric: how have early American and nineteenth-century texts instilled the cultural narrative of American exceptionalism? Bitzinger is also interested in pursuing ecocriticism as a theoretical framework for her scholarship.
