On Friday, October 2nd, Garvey will lead a Graduate Student Workshop on "Archives: Their Contents and Histories" from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in 447 Denney.Garvey is Professor in the English Department at New Jersey City University. She also teaches inthe Honors Program and Women's and Gender Studies. She is a cultural historian who specializes in print culture, 19th century to the present. Her research uses archival exploration and literary evidence to study historical reading and publishing practices and material culture. Garvey is the author of Writing with Scissors: American Scrapbooks from the Civil War to the Harlem Renaissance (Oxford Univeristy Press, 2013) and The Adman in the Parlor: Magazines and the Gendering of Consumer Culture (Oxford University Press, 1996). Ellen Gruber Garvey
