Although most supervisors hire GAs spring quarter for the following academic year, some positions described in this document may not be open for the coming year. General Specifications50% appointment = 20 hours/week; 25% appointment = 10 hours/week.
- Graduate School rules limit graduate students to appointments totaling no more than 30 hours/week.

Teaching Associateships (GTAs)
Teaching appointments are available every quarter, but the number of positions available in any quarter depends upon the department’s schedule of course offerings as well as student demand for those courses. Summer appointments are awarded based on seniority and on certification to teach the course offered. Two-quarter course sequence in intensive reading and writing for students who need extra preparation before taking 110. Assigned to TAs with previous experience teaching basic writing, completion of English 881.02, or enrollment in independent study hours on basic writing. Courses that meet in a DMP computer classroom are assigned to TAs who wish to integrate digital media instruction into their teaching. Courses meet either full time in a DMP classroom or are scheduled as hybrid sections (one day a week in a computer classroom, one day a week in a traditional classroom). Graduate Teaching Associate; Collections, Instruction, Public Services Division (Subject Specialist for English)
Salary:
$ 1,046.50 per month plus tuition waiver. This is a three-quarter, 50% appointment (20 hrs/week). The graduate associate is expected to work from AU '08 through SP '09
Reports to:
OSUL Subject Specialist for English
This position is designed to support new collaborative instructional initiatives between the OSU Libraries (OSUL) and the Department of English, as well as related projects assigned by the OSUL Subject Specialist for English. Training in research instruction will be provided.
Duties—English 110/367:
- Assist with pre-quarter GTA orientation, helping train English 110 instructors to provide basic, course-integrated research instruction
- Assist with monthly Dept. of English writing/research pedagogy forums
- Serve as liaison between the English 110/367 instructors and OSUL
- Assist with developing and providing access to multi-media learning objects for the OSUL/English 110 Model Course project
- Explore the instructional research needs of English 367 as they relate to English 110.
- Provide research instruction to sections of English 398
- Assist with development of additional multi-media library research learning objects for use by undergraduate and graduate English classes
- Participate as a graduate student mentor in the OSUL Peer Library Tutor Program
- Assist with projects related to the American and English literature collections of the OSUL.
- Graduate level standing at Oho State and enrollment for at least nine credit hours (seven hours during Summer Quarter). Doctoral students who have passed the candidacy examination must be enrolled for at least twelve credit hours.
- English 110 teaching experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong commitment to connecting people with information resources that meet their information needs
- Willingness to develop one's own research skills
- Basic skills in web authoring or at least one multi-media authoring application
- Paid experience in an academic library
- Intermediate multi-media and/or web authoring skills
