Students: Graduate Information
Admission to the Ph.D. Program (Internal Applicants)
Internal M.A. students who were admitted to the program prior to Autumn 2010 and who wish to continue their studies at Ohio State may apply to the Ph.D. program in English after they have completed at least 25 hours of coursework. Students planning to apply should attend the informational meeting held Spring Quarter and direct any questions about the process to the Director of Graduate Admissions. Students apply by submitting to the Graduate Admissions Committee a sample of critical writing, a personal statement, a brief curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation.Internal applicants will be considered by the Graduate Admissions Committee in the same pool as external applicants. For the 2009-2010 academic year, the deadline for submitting applications is January 19, 2010. This deadline also applies to students wishing to transfer from other departments at OSU.
All admissions granted while the student is working on the M.A. are contingent upon the completion of the M.A. degree with a performance comparable to the student’s best previous work. Failure of the M.A. Comprehensive Examination or the Portfolio would necessitate a review of the application.
