Romantic TransportSo often to imagine an ending
we see the lovers continue endlessly.
We cant be certain whos doing the steering.
No one quite seems to steer.
The road curves
and theyre moving away from us.
There are hills, new roads.
We are ending the novel by not ending their travel.
The lovers are never coming to a stop.
We almost love them. Truly.
They are going and they are going nowhere, we think.
But they arrive inevitably wherever were leaving,
wherever we look away.
They are rescuing the distance for us.
