Scheduling

A schedule of peer consulting groups will be provided to you during the first full week of the quarter. I will do my best to accommodate your busy class and work schedules; however, meeting the needs of the 110.03 students is our priority.

Meeting the Teachers

During the week of January 9--after you have received your schedule--you should meet with the teacher of the 110.03 students with whom you'll be working. I will attend these meetings as well.

The meetings take place in the teachers' offices in 218 Ohio Stadium East; during the meetings, they will tell you about their teaching philosophies and the course they are teaching. They will also invite you to attend their class. Visiting the class will greatly enhance your tutoring, and visiting a class is part of the 467 course requirements.

You can access the teachers' philosophy statements by following the links below: Pat Kedzerski

Meeting Your Groups

You will meet with your groups for the first time during the week of January 9. Consult your 467 syllabus for this information. Meeting locations will also be provided.

After the first meeting, you can continue to meet in the same place where you first meet your groups, or, if you prefer, you can meet in any other public place on campus or on High Steet that does not serve alcohol. Once you've decided on a meeting place, let me and your course instructor know. If you need to change your meeting place, you will need to fill out the change of location form (see button at left) and have it signed by all members of your group, your 467 instructor, and the Peer Writing Consultant Coordinator.

Observations

Sometime between the fourth and eighth week of the quarter, an experienced PWC or your Peer Writing Consultant Coordinator will visit one of your groups and write an observation report about the session. These reports serve as a resource for letters of recommendation and as instructive feedback regarding your peer consulting work. The reports are not part of your grade for 467.

Attendance

After each group meeting, fill out the weekly attendance form by clicking the button to the left. This form should be submitted within 24 hours of your group's session.

It is extremely important to keep up with the attendance reports, since many teachers figure attendance into their students' grades and the peer groups are a part of English 110.03. If you keep teachers up to date on attendance, then they can talk with students as soon as any attendance problems arise.

Remember, your attendance is essential. If you must miss a meeting, it is your responsibility to contact the students in your group and arrange another time to meet. Get the email addresses and phone numbers of the students in your group, and share yours with them. All of the teachers in the Writing Workshop want their students to take responsibility for their education; you can help by setting a professional standard in your own conduct.
