Tailor It to the Class's Needs Game

Time: 20-30 minutes
Skills: As the title suggests, you can tailor this to your particular class’s needs

This activity allows you to use examples from your students’ writing to focus on their particular weaknesses.
  • Identify what particular grammar or style issues your students are struggling with.
  • Select sentences from their own writing (anonymously, of course) that reflect their problem issues and type up a sheet with 20 of these sentences.
  • Give a mini-lecture on the issues that you plan to focus on.
  • Break the class into teams to work on fixing these sentences.
  • If you want to, you can turn this into a full-blown game with candy as their reward for completing the activity.
