Awards for Teachers and Students
Vera Carter Cooley Teaching Award
Application materials are due by April 21, 2008
The Vera Carter Cooley Teaching Award grants $200 annually to an outstanding instructor who has taught in the First-Year Writing Program. Anyone who has taught 109.01, 109.02, 110.03, 110.01, or 110.02 including all computer and honor sections, during the 2007-08 academic year is eligible. GTAs may apply by submitting the materials listed below.
The selection of the winner is based on the following materials:
- A course syllabus.
- 2 to 3 class handouts or essay prompts.
- One photocopied set of discursive student evaluations.
- A one-page (double-spaced) self-reflective summary of these discursive evaluations.
- A written evaluation of the instructor's teaching from a faculty member, peer mentor, or Writing Program Administrator.
- A personal statement (1 - 2 pages, double-spaced) describing the instructor's teaching philosophy, goals, and methods.
- A cover letter.
