Awards for Teachers and Students

For teachers

The Vera Carter Cooley Award for Excellence in Teaching First-Year Writing: The Vera Carter Cooley Teaching Award grants $200 to an outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate for teaching in the First-Year Writing Program (109.01, 109.02, 110.03, 110.01, or 110.02). GTAs are eligible after their first year teaching in the Department during the 2008-09 academic year. Applications for this award are due on April 24, 2009. For details, click here.

The Rhetorical Visions Award for Excellence in Teaching by a First-Year Graduate Teaching Associate: This award of $200, funded by royalties from the text Rhetorical Visions by Brenda J. Brueggemann and Wendy S. Hesford, is determined by the staff of the First-Year Writing Program based on positive student response in course evaluations. All first-year GTAs in the FYWP are eligible for the award, which will be announced at the annual English Department Awards Ceremony.

For students:

The First-Year Writing Program Award for Outstanding Research Project: The First-Year Writing Program Award for Outstanding Research Project recognizes an outstanding analytical research project completed in English 110 at The Ohio State University. Three awards for $100 each, sponsored by Cengage Publishing (Writing Analytically), are available. For details, click here. Instructors can nominate one student each year for the Award.
