For teachers
The NEW Rhetorical Visions Teaching Award: The First Year Writing Program has established a new annual Teaching Award, with the support of royalties from the program's custom reader Rhetorical Visions. This $200 award is designated for a graduate teaching assistant in the first year of teaching English 110. The award will be given to an outstanding GTA as determined by the FYWP staff and faculty. The director, associate director, and writing program administrators will take into account a GTA's formal teaching observation report, discursive and electronic evaluations, and participation in pedagogical forums and other activities sponsored by the FYWP. There is NO nomination process for this award as all the information necessary for making the selection will already be available to the program. The Vera Carter Cooley Award for Excellence in Teaching First-Year Writing: This award of $200 is for excellence in teaching any version of First-Year Writing, including courses taught through the Writing Workshop. The application package--including cover letter, teaching philosophy, set of evaluations with reflective summary, official observation report, and examples of original classroom materials--will be due in early spring.
