*Students will have the opportunity to take classes in all three of the genres. These classes will feature various aspects of technique and craft and will also make room for writing activities and the close study of poems, short stories, and literary essays.
**Students will be admitted to the Young Writers Workshop as either poets, fiction writers, or writers of creative nonfiction. In the afternoons, they will be in workshops according to genre, so they will have the chance for more intense study of that genre. These workshops will allow faculty and the other students to respond to one another’s work in detail and to make suggestions for revisions.
Capstone Event
The final evening of the week will feature a banquet where we'll celebrate the students' participation in the summer program as winners of Young Writers Workshop Scholarships. We will have a keynote speaker at the banquet as well as a featured reader from the program’s faculty or from the community. Family members will be welcome to attend.
