MFA Program: The Journal
Established in 1973, Ohio State's literary magazine has offered the University's best writing students an opportunity to work as student editors of a magazine with a growing national reputation. Recent contributors to The Journal have included T.R. Pearson, Heather McHugh, Cynthia Ozick, Linda Bierds, Thomas Lux and Lawrence Raab. Students are also encouraged to work on the staff of The Journal through the University's Work/Study Program and to compete on the graduate level for The Journal's Managing and Associate Editorships as well as Creative Writing Administrative Associateships. Stipends in 2009-2010 for new Associates will be the same as for G.T.A. and G.A.A. positions - at least $12,096.00. Each year, through The Journal/Ohio State University Press Award in Poetry, a full-length manuscript of poems is selected in an open competition. The author of the winning manuscript receives $1,000 and the book is published by The Ohio State University Press. (For guidelines, write OSU Press, 1050 Carmack Road, Columbus, Ohio 43210).
