Critical Theory Area
Critical theory at Ohio State is interwoven into the curriculum and integral to the research of many faculty and graduate students. Critical theory has a distinct presence in the curriculum through a set of survey and special topics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and a similarly distinct presence in the research of particular faculty members. We have specialists in the major schools and movements of literary theory from formalism to poststructuralism and critical race theory, in the cognate disciplines such as psychoanalysis, Marxism, and feminism; and in the literary genres, particularly narrative and performance. Furthermore, the faculty who identify themselves as theorists also typically have a presence in another area of study.
English Faculty
As critical and cultural theory and its relation to literary study have evolved over the past quarter-century, the interests and expertise of our faculty have also evolved, and we expect a similar co-evolution in the future.
