Ohio State English Alumna Wins Walter Rumsey Marvin Award

"Nicole was a true find—a razor-sharp, sassy, smart, hilariously funny young writer," said Herman. "When she was an undergrad here, I never read anything she wrote without the deepest pleasure and fascination."
McClelland received her M.F.A. in nonfiction writing from the University of New Orleans. She has worked as an English instructor and translator in Thailand, a composition instructor at the University of New Orleans, Capital University, and Columbus State Community College, and most recently as a copy editor for Mother Jones magazine in San Francisco. She has been the recipient of the 2005 Samuel Mockbee Award for Nonfiction and the 2007 Creative Writing Workshop Service Award from the University of New Orleans.
The Walter Rumsey Marvin Grant was established by Dr. Marvin's family to encourage young writers. Dr. Marvin served as the Director of the Ohioana Library Association from 1954 to 1965. The Marvin Grant is a $1,000 award given to an author under 30 years of age who has not had a book published. The Ohioana Library Association collects, promotes, and preserves the work of Ohio writers, musicians, and other artists.
