Michael Montoya, Associate Professor of Anthropology at University of California-Irvine Project Narrative and the Disability Studies Program are delighted to announce the inaugural event for our newly launched Medicine, Narrative, Disability, Rhetoric ColLABoratory.  This event is free and open to the public. Breakfast begins at 8:30am.  Program begins at 9:00am.  RSVP. If you plan to attend, please email Rebecca Hudgins (hudgins.18@osu.edu) and specify the following: which hours you plan to attend; whether you would like lunch provided; and whether you have any dietary restrictions. Due to the discussion-oriented nature of this event, space is limited. Please register early. The event's primary aim is to foster dialogue among scholars, practitioners, and activists in disability studies, narrative medicine, cultural studies, rhetorical theory, and related fields. Particularly in these times, diversity leaders at Ohio State need to come together, reaffirm our scholarly and activist commitments, combine our strengths, and recognize our differences. The ColLABoratory is aimed at fostering such conversations and inspiring future collaborations. The event will include keynote talks by Dr. Michael Montoya, Anthropologist from UC-Irvine specializing in public health and racialized health disparities, and Dr. Ann Fox, a Drama/English scholar at Davidson College specializing in visual representations of disability. It will also include Ignite panels by OSU faculty in literature, anthropology, linguistics, rhetoric, public health, folklore, and Indigenous studies.  Discussion. Throughout the day, attendees will identify key issues for further discussion, aimed at fostering future action and collaboration. We anticipate discussions not only of the four subjects named in the ColLABoratory’s title but also of bioethics, feminist science studies, narrative theory, rehabilitation science, disability activism, adaptive design, and more.  Sponsors. Project Narrative; Disability Studies Program; Popular Culture Program; Theatre Department; Anthropology Department; English Department; Disability Studies Graduate Student Association; The Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Accessibility. This venue is wheels-accessible and is lit by fluorescent light. The event will be captioned. Attendees are asked not to wear fragranced products.
