Student Spotlight: Senior Adrianna Johnson

Ask any career counselor and they'll tell you the way to an employer's heart is through experience: what have you done that sets you apart? For Adrianna Johnson, a senior undergraduate student in the Rhetoric, Composition, and Literacy Studies department, career experience came in the form of an editorial internship at Ohio State's Wexner Center.

The Plano, Texas native, who was recommended for the position by a peer, spent the autumn 2007 quarter working in the Wex's Editorial Department, a job that fit in well with her career goals and gave her the opportunity to "marry [her] love of words with a practical application."

"I spent my time proofreading Wexner Center event information, from small things such as mailers and calendars up to a large collection of essays on the upcoming Solitaire exhibition. I did some writing as well that ended up in brochures and on the Wexner Center Web site," said Johnson.

The results? A new experience that reinforces her interest in editorial fields. "My internship allowed me to apply skills from the classroom directly into a work environment, said Johnson. "And as a hopeful future editor, I could not ask for a better learning experience."
